Scheduled your Home Inspection?

Preparing your home before the inspection helps the process go smoothly and ensures the inspector can access everything they need. 

🏡 Home Inspection Preparation Checklist:

✅ General Preparation

 

  • Make sure all utilities (water, gas, electricity) are turned on.
     
  • Replace any burnt-out light bulbs.
     
  • Test and replace batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
     
  • Unlock all gates, sheds, garages, and electrical panels.
     
  • Provide clear access to attic, basement, and crawl spaces.

✅ Interior of the home

 

  • Remove items blocking access to HVAC units, water heaters, and electrical panels.
     
  • Ensure all doors and windows open and close properly.
     
  • Check that all toilets flush and sinks drain without issues.
     
  • Clean up clutter to allow the inspector to move around freely.
     
  • Secure or remove pets for safety.

✅ Exterior of the home

 

  • Clear debris from around the foundation and exterior walls.
     
  • Unlock and provide access to sheds, garages, and exterior buildings.
     
  • Trim back shrubs/trees that may block access to the siding or roofline.
     
  • Remove obstacles from driveways, walkways, and decks.
     

✅ Roof & Attic

 

  • Remove obstacles blocking roof access (if applicable).
     
  • Clear away stored items from attic entrances.
     
  • Ensure attic lights (if present) are working.

  • Inspections usually take 2–4 hours.
